    The Real Problems Mice Cause

Mice might look small and harmless, but they can cause big problems in your home from health risks to being a fire hazard.

Mice carry diseases such as salmonella and hantavirus, and these are easily spread through their droppings, urine and saliva. Not to mention the smell that comes along with this, which if left untreated can become an overwhelming odour that is hard to shift. Mice love to nibble on food so the first place they will head to is the kitchen, and any stored food can quickly become contaminated.

They also like to nibble on wood, insulation and electrical wires, so not only can they cause significant damage to your property they could also potentially cause a fire.

Mice in your home can leave you feeling on edge, from the noises they make to seeing them scuttle around, and left untreated the problem can get out of hand.  That’s where our expert technicians step in.

    How We Protect Your Home

Our aim is to work quickly to irradicate mice from your property leaving you to enjoy your home with minimal disruption. Our expert technicians will carry out a detailed survey of your property and identify potential entry points.

They will then use professional grade equipment and proven techniques such as baiting and trapping to solve the issue safely and discreetly.  We always consider safety measures such as children or pets being present.

Once the job is complete, we offer lots of advice on how to prevent the mice returning, from ensuring that all entry points are sealed and how to make your home less attractive to mice by following our handy tips.  Where needed we can also provide ongoing prevention until the problem is fully resolved.

    Facts About Mice

    • Entering your property: Although we know that mice are small creatures they can actually squeeze through gaps as small as 6mm, about the width of a pencil.
    • Offspring: A single female mouse can produce 25–60 offspring a year, making infestations escalate very quickly indeed.
    • Up all night:  Mice are nocturnal creatures and that’s why when you go to bed at night you will often hear them scurrying around – which doesn’t make for a very peaceful night’s sleep!
    • Property Damage:  Mice are constantly gnawing on things to keep their incisors from overgrowing.  The downside to this is that they are not too fussy on what they gnaw on – from wood to insulation to electrical wires.
    • Constantly on the move:  Mice are excellent climbers and can even scale vertical surfaces.  Not only that, they are super-fast at moving around so the chance of catching them is very slim.

    The Biology of Mice

The most common mouse in UK homes is the house mouse (Mus musculus). These small rodents have grey-brown fur and long tails. Adult mice typically weigh 12–30 grams and measure around 7–10cm in length.

Mice are territorial and nest in warm, quiet spaces near food and water sources—such as under kitchen units, behind appliances, or in lofts and wall cavities. They breed rapidly and can reach sexual maturity within 6 weeks. Without intervention, populations can explode within just a few months.

Advice on Controlling and Preventing Mice

Once mice are inside your home, they can be very difficult to eliminate without our professional help.  So, here are a few tips on how to protect your property from attracting mice.

    • Seal entry points: Check for and block small gaps around pipes, vents, and door frames.
    • Keep food secure: Store food in airtight containers and avoid leaving pet food out overnight.
    • Maintain cleanliness: Reduce clutter and keep kitchens and dining areas clean and crumb-free.
    • Regularly check hidden areas: Look in lofts, under sinks, and behind appliances for signs of droppings or nesting.
    • Fix leaks: Mice need water as well as food—fixing drips can help make your home less inviting.
